Before his lengthy tenure as a cinematic visionary, Stanley Kubrick was a photojournalist. In 1949, LOOK magazine sent him to Chicago. The result? Stanley Kubrick’s Chicago, 1949. Look carefully and you’ll see still versions of shots he’ll use years later.

Lightning in a Bottle Time

Saw this on Film News Briefs today:

It looks like Russell Crowe might be adding another line to his renaissance man-like resume. The Oscar-winning actor is toying around with the idea of making his directorial debut with “77” — a film idea that not only sounds dynamite, but would re-team Crowe with the work of James Ellroy (anyone remember “L.A. Confidential”?).

The unscripted film – with those duties handed off to David M. Matthews – involves two story lines from 1974 involving the murder of an LAPD officer and the epic 50,000-round shootout between the Symbionese Liberation Army (the Patty Hearst kidnappers) and the LAPD. According to Movieline.com, Crowe is awaiting the revised screenplay.
