Seriously.  As this article in Wired puts it, “. . .if you want to be a maker of things – or at minimum avoid a quietly desperate life in front of the television – you have a responsibility to head down to the workshop.”  All these side projects keep the ideas flowing and the skills fresh.  Plus the downtime in between them is sweet, a reward of sorts ready to cram with family, fun, and relaxation.
