Last week my wife and I were listening to Sirius XM’s 70s on 7 channel which was running a rebroadcast of “American Top 40” from the last week of June, 1979.  Most of the Top 10 – particularly the Top 5 – was dominated by disco.  Donna Summer had hits in the three and two spots with “Bad Girls,” and “Hot Stuff,” respectively.  Anita Ward’s “Ring My Bell” was number one.

Just a few weeks later, as I remember, this song came along and demolished the reign of disco.  Sure, the music stuck around for awhile after that, but it never again enjoyed the chart-staying power it once had.

And all it took was two songs from one album.  Here’s the disco-destroying “Good Girls Don’t” from The Knack.

Have a grand weekend.
