Something to make your blood boil on a Tuesday morning: this article in The Atlantic by Jeffrey Goldberg.

The gist?  A 23-year-old middle school teacher in Maryland has been placed on leave and forced to undergo an emergency medical evaluation for publishing a novel, under a pen-name, about a school shooting.  Problem is:  he wrote it three years ago, and the shooting takes place 900 years in the future.

The day the teacher was taken in for a medical evaluation, the school where he taught was swept for guns and bombs. Nothing was found. The teacher is currently being held in an undisclosed location.

So now schoolchildren in Maryland are safe from fiction, and a Soviet-style guilt apparatus has an innocent man in custody.

I smell a lawsuit, up to and including the school board, the superintendent, and the idiot judge who signed the warrant to search the school.

And here’s the book, by the way.
