How much are you willing to take? Liz Ryan says not to take any. . .at all!
I heard a nasty little secret from a staffing agency recruiter I know: some hiring managers enjoy the candidate search process so much that they don’t bother to hire anyone. Merely going through the process is enough. That’s why job seekers all too often hear, “We’ve changed our requirements,” or “There’s been a shift in management priorities,” or “We’ve had to alter our budget for this position and can’t hire anybody until next month (or quarter or year).” These sadists are too busy enjoying the process of getting people to submit a resume, take psychological profiles, interview, interview again, interview with a committee, then send out a generic e-mail offering one of the above excuses.
Of course, you never hear, “You’re just too sexy for this job.”
