Two shows premiereing this fall – NBC’s The Playboy Club and ABC’s Pan-AM – are an answer to the successful retro-ring-a-ding-ding-swank of AMC’s Mad Men. They literally will have legs (and lots of them, from the look of it), but will they have the figurative legs to last a season? Jason Apuzzo at Libertas takes a short look.

Since I’m old enough to have lived through these times, I know these shows are the past seen through the eyes of today, rather that exact recreations. The fact that these are all pre-feminist era shows, and that they depict traditional gender roles in a kindly and respectful manner, is not lost on me. Talk about letting the marketplace decide! This is soft-core propaganda if there ever was such a thing!
As far as I’m concerned, so long as they keep putting Christina Hendricks on, I don’t care if the networks get Ebola. This is the hottest woman to come out of Hollywood since Mansfield and Monroe! Put the toothpicks back on the shelf, the real deal is here!
God Bless Us One and All!
